Although the update option seems to happen at random, it's possible to
start it whenever you want provided there is an update available.

- From the home screen, click on the “apps” icon to open your apps screen.

Click “About phone” all the way at the bottom of the settings screen.

If there’s an upgrade, you’ll see a screen about which upgrade is available.
CLick the "update" button begin the update. The phone will then
download the file. After it downloads, click the “install” button to
install the update. If there’s no update, the screen will read “no
update.”

often require your phone to restart. So generally you’ll want to do the
upgrade when you don’t need the phone for anything else.
